I’m 27 and wondering if I’m too old to apply for an MBA at IIMs. Will I still fitinto the cohort or placement scenario?

27 is not too old for an IIM but the right program depends on your work experience at that age. For the two-year flagship MBA at IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, or Kozhikode (CAT-based), the class average age is 23–24, and applicants with 5+ years of experience sometimes find the program less aligned with their career stage. These programs accept candidates of any age, but the cohort composition skews younger. At 27 with 4–5 years of experience, better-aligned options are IIM Ahmedabad PGPX (average age around 32), IIM Bangalore EPGP (5–12 years experience), IIM Calcutta MBAEx (5+ years), and IIM Lucknow IPMX (5+ years), all one-year executive MBAs designed for this career stage. ISB PGP is also well-suited (average work experience 4–4.5 years). The “too old” framing is usually wrong; the right framing is program-fit based on experience and career goals.
