What is a blended MBA program?
I keep hearing about blended MBA programs, but what exactly does it
mean? Is it just a fancy term for part-time, or does it offer something truly flexible yet
rigorous for someone managing a full-time job?
A blended MBA combines live online instruction with mandatory on-campus modules, giving working professionals a flexible structure without fully remote trade-offs. The format typically schedules online classes across weekday evenings and weekends, with 2–6 on-campus residencies of 1 week each spread across the program duration. Leading Indian blended MBAs include IIM Ahmedabad’s BPGP (2-year, ₹20 lakh, 3+ years experience), IIM Lucknow’s bMBA, IIM Kozhikode’s DiM, and IIM Bangalore’s online MBA formats. Since the IIM Act 2017, these programs now award formal MBA degrees rather than diplomas, which matters for PhD eligibility and senior-role credentialing. Blended programs do not have campus placements in the traditional sense, the value proposition is the IIM brand, faculty access, alumni network, and credential for promotion or role change within the existing employer. Costs are significantly lower than full-time MBAs (₹15–20 lakh versus ₹26+ lakh). Detailed comparison of IIM blended programs at https://www.goalisb.com/post/iima-online-mba.
